Kunal Ghosh questions PM Modi’s Bengal visit timing and demands release of pending dues

Kunal Ghosh, a political leader from West Bengal, has raised questions regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. He pointed out that the visit coincides with a sensitive time when the fight against terrorism is ongoing and when West Bengal’s ruling party is supporting the central government’s efforts to maintain national unity. Ghosh questioned the timing of holding political events in West Bengal under these circumstances.

Ghosh also highlighted the issue of pending financial dues owed to West Bengal by the central government. He stated that Bengal has an outstanding amount of ₹1.70 lakh crore. According to him, the central government has not released funds under the 100-days work scheme nor housing-related payments. He questioned why the Prime Minister came without announcing any financial assistance and only delivered speeches.

Regarding military affairs, Ghosh demanded that no political statements should be made about Operation Sindoor, a sensitive army operation. He emphasized that the armed forces’ efforts should not be used for political advantage. Ghosh stressed the importance of keeping military matters free from political exploitation during times of national concern.

Ghosh referred to the deaths in Pahalgam, noting that some victims were from West Bengal, and that soldiers from the state also lost their lives. He quoted Mamata Banerjee’s statement affirming support for the nation and the army, regardless of political differences. Ghosh questioned the Prime Minister’s decision to hold political events in West Bengal at such a time.

He also criticized BJP leadership, specifically mentioning party president Sukanta Majumdar, in the context of voter list controversies and political accountability. Ghosh pointed out that Trinamool Congress has contributed to development in North Bengal, including improved tourism and railway services, and questioned BJP’s role in these areas.

Finally, Ghosh raised concerns about border security and Rohingya infiltration from the Tripura-Bangladesh border. He mentioned that BJP-ruled Tripura has not reported incidents locally but claimed that the border area was forcibly expanded by 50 kilometers. Ghosh also stated that Mamata Banerjee has addressed job losses and rejected political provocation related to this issue.
